I don’t really understand what you’re saying, but I’ll take a stab. Is that statement going to hurt Trump? No. Will it help him? Probably.
Look. There are a billion muslims out there and 99% probably just want to live a normal life and go about their business. However, of the people that hate America, make serious threats of violence towards us, and are the root cause of most of the wars in the world…well, they’re about 99% muslim.
I feel genuinely sorry for the vast majority of muslims. I know they’re good people. That said, their religion sucks and they cause trouble. You’re not going to find too many Americans that are going to cast their vote simply because a politician speaks poorly of Islam. Most either don’t care or have a negative opinion of them.
^ Agree that the statement won’t cost him votes (were there really many Muslims who were planning to vote for him?), but most bigots were probably already supporting him so don’t know that it will gain him many either.
I don’t think you can say “their religion sucks” any more than any other religion. It’s really the state of cultural/social/economic evolution that is interpreting the religion that makes it appear to suck or not. If the same people were Christian they’d be doing the same things just using a different justification.
What percentage of Muslims don’t believe women should have rights equivalent to men? According to most people in America, are you “good people” if you believe women should not have the same rights as men? And why would Donald attract more bigots than anyone else?
Look, I dislike all organized religions. There are plenty of crazy Christians out there shooting up Planned Parenthoods and taking over parks in Oregon. But, I can’t name another religion that calls for the stoning to death of women for adultery even if they were raped. Or kills all the men in a town and “marries” (read: rapes) little girls.
The Christian bible does call for some pretty crazy stuff, but we no longer put people to death for wearing clothes of mixed fibers or send women into the forest when they get their period.
I know, but you see my point, yes? We (Christians, though I’m not but whatever) grew out it. Evolved. Muslims have devolved, horribly. 700 years ago, Muslims held scientific conferences that drew the best minds from all over the world to discuss everything from astrophysics to psychology. They were the most scientifically advanced “race” on earth. Then, for reasons I could probably read up on but don’t currently know, they went backwards. They shunned secular notions and science in general, and went back to beheading people for having different beliefs.
So, yes, I completely get your point. 700 years ago Christians were killing people in the name of Christ and today it’s the Muslims doing it in the name of Allah. Doesn’t change the fact that at this very moment, Islam sucks the hardest.

perhaps it was a random set of circumstances by which christians continued to evolve and muslims devolved. i see what you’re saying, i just don’t think attacking/erradicating islam itself would accomplish anything. just as erradicating christianity would have no functional effect on the root belief systems of greenman’s neighbors. the root is a fundamental misunderstanding of human life and christian orthodoxy is just window dressing used (without conscious intent) to justify certain behaviors & beliefs.
I believe this event wasone of the main reasons why Muslims didn’t keep evolving forward (in medieval times). This pretty much killed intellectual growth.
In more modern times, places like KSA are responsible for promoting ideologies that ensure that the Muslim world stays in the 7th century. There are also cultural issues, such as how Arab/Islamic culture has a deep sense of machismo, something people associate with Latin America, but it’s stronger among Muslims.

Yeah, I was going to say Mongols happened about 700 years ago, but Palantir mentioned the seige of Baghdad, which pretty much killed off the accumulated knowledge and intellectual class, much like the burning of the library of Alexandria in the ancient world.
But there may be a different dynamic. Civilizations when they are at the apex of their powers are often more tolerant and ecumenical, because they feel less threatened by differences. So the Mongols basically ended Arab dominance in the region, and (after a short rule themselves) made way for more Turks to dominate the region. All of a sudden, Arab civilization appeared to be on the defensive, and in situations like that, religious societies often argue that decline comes from not following the religious dicates close enough to the letter. We see some of this in the US when things like Hurricane Sandy get blamed on stuff like tolerance of gay marriage and abortion.

Trump will go down as the savior of the american political system. When he wins the nomination (or is brokered out of it at the convention), the republican party is going to split. What will be left is the far right dinosaurs who will continue to die a slow inconsequencial death. The remainder of the party will be more centrist and will start to look very attractive to moderate democrats. A new centrist majority will take over and the fringes will be left behind. Mark it down.
