Visa Sponsorship

I just found out I am the 2nd choice as an associate for an investment bank in New York. I have a green card and the top candidate does not. The bank is trying to sponsor him, said they will figure out by the end of this week or beginning of next week if they can. Are you guys familiar with the success rate for these types of deals? Hopefully this guy cant get a visa!

I think the way to get a work visa is if they prove that there is no other candidate suitable for the position - in fact in many cases some companies create ‘fake’ job interviews to prove that they were looking for other candidates but none was suitable. It might be more difficult but a good lawyer can advise how to get around anything basically. Just wait and see no magic answer

Do you need someone to “take care of” the other candidate? I know a guy…

Wow, pretty low ethics standards here…

Sounds good ohai, if it is a positive NPV project, why not!?

why is it low ethical standards?

^^ One guy hopes a more qualified candidate can’t get his/her job… Another guy offers a hit man (albeit likely joking)…

Come on alpha seeker ahahhaa …of course I will root for my self… If you think like a socialist don’t go seeking alpha because you’re taking money for somebody ob the opposite side of your trade okay?!

I don’t think it’s low ethics not to want to lose your job to somebody else, even if that other person is more ‘qualified’ than you. I’m still deciding on the hitman deal…

^ “Hopefully this guy cant get a visa!” hoping something bad happen to your competitor… Poor attitude and ethnics. That said, totally understand how you feel about the job. I would have said something like “hopefully they chose me in the end…”

True, different perspective

Do you know which visa they are trying to get? I would think an H-1B. It that is the case, they missed the boat by almost 5 months.

Ahahhaa its all good guys… It is an associate position, I have no clue what visa …what do you mean by they missed the boat? Anyways, I was in Manhattan last week and interviewed with them and somebody else. I interviewed with them on thursday and the other guys on friday. Late friday afternoon as I was getting to know central park the recruiter called me saying they liked me a lot, and wanted me to stay till monday to talk to the hiring manager, I tokd them to either put me in a hotel for the weekend or have me fly back to ny. The recruiter talked to the head and he confirmed they would put me in a hotel. I was supposed to fly back home Saturday afternoon. Then saturday morning he tells me not to change my flight yet because the head was checking with hr in which hotels they would put me in. I fly back home. I get in touch with the recruiter yesterday , he said he would check on them to see when I would fly back. Today he lets me know there is this other guy and they re trying to get him a visa, and they should know by the end of this week if it will be possible for the bank to sponsor this guy… Was kind of weird but whatever

Depends how bad they want him. If they are willing to put up the money, legal paperwork, ey will get him the visa.

They stopped accepting applications for H-1B visas in late January. H-1B is generally what is used to hire people for jobs that require “highly specialized knowledge”. It was created at the behest of IT firms who felt they weren’t able to bring in enough programmers from Asia under the other visa categories.

So you think he won’t get it?

They could potentially bring him in initially under a B-1 and then apply for H-1B next year or maybe even permanent residency. They would have to really, really, really want him though and/or know the proper people to payoff.

Wow… One would think there had to be like a huge cliff when comparing my abilities to his for they even to pursue that… It’s just weird as I did very well and I learned this guy is no more senior than I am…What is a B-1? We will wait and see what happens, tks

Hey man it’s out of your hands now, good luck with it and go on with your life until they contact you

Length of stay is limited to 6-12 months.
