Hamilton uses a Valjoux movement in their automatic watches as do many higher end watches. Hamilton and bulova are the most affordable watches that use this movement, I believe. So far very happy with mine. Planning my next hamilton purchase.
what about nauticas?
I want that 7K Omega speedmaster so bad!
Was traveling with my boss who seems to have a different watch on every day. Just came out of a customer meeting in Geneva with some guys who of course were rolling serious time pieces. We ran to the airport to jump on a flight and just before boarding my boss said he suggested I run over and grab myself a new watch as my polar heart rate monitor just was not cutting it. Grabbed one of these after browsing for approx 60 seconds. http://us.tagheuer.com/en/luxury-watches/aquaracer/aquaracer-500m-43mm-black-stainless-steel-bracelet
I was at the Zwinger Palace in Dresden a couple days ago, and saw the following watches on display at the museum, where A Lange & Sohne is the main sponsor. http://www.alange-soehne.com/cms/en/timepieces/lange-1/index.html http://www.alange-soehne.com/cms/en/timepieces/unforgettable-masterpieces/lange-1-tourbillon/index.html http://www.alange-soehne.com/cms/en/timepieces/lange-1/lange-1-daymatic/index.html mmmmmm…
I’m a fan of Patek Philippes, but I rock a Gucci. I definitely like their product line a little better after Frida Giannini came on board.
Incidentally, I bought a used Rolex recently. It’s about 3 years old and I got it from a gray market dealer for around half of MSRP. Now that I have the watch, I do feel a bit pretentious sometimes, especially since everyone is like “Oh is that a Rolex? How much did you pay?”. I think that if I had to do it again, I would probably go with something like this Omega below, which is of comparable quality to a Rolex, but less expensive and less pretentious. http://www.omegawatches.com/gents/seamaster/planet-ocean/22015000

My friend’s cousin let me try his on; he was trying to negotiate a trade for my car.

For a younger guy, if you are going Rolex, please please please don’t get anything with a Jubilee bracelet… you will look like you are 70 years old. Get an Air King with a subtle dial color - the most underrated of all Rolex models, you also won’t have the ridiculous date bubble sticking out on the Air King. If you have a bigger wrist, a black dial, black bezel Submariner is about as classic as it gets. Buying either of those watches used, you will probably sell it at break-even or a profit when something else catches your eye. I made a nice profit on my Air King, and I’m looking for a black-dial Omega Seamaster Professional right now, as it has a modern and youthful look, but combines it with some serious watchmaking technology (co-axial movement).
Came across this popular mechanics article on yahoo, and though all you watch enthusiasts may like it. The 9 Most Important Watches in the World: http://shopping.yahoo.com/articles/yshoppingarticles/671/the-9-most-important-watches-in-the-world/
What do you guys think of the Rolex Explorer, I know nothing about watches.
I am extremely sad to say that the watch I referenced in this thread was stolen just a couple of weeks ago. In a bizarre twist it was stolen the night before my father died (he gave it to me). It was almost like the loss of it killed him (though he didn’t know it). At least that is what it feels like to me. Though it had considerable value it was worth a 100x more than that to me. That watch was either on his wrist or mine since 1968.
sad to hear mwvt9…may your dad RIP

Blacked out watches (vapor deposit method, etc.) are cool until the deposit wears away… then it looks like a POS… and you have ruined a $3K+ watch that you paid another $500+ to get a custom PVD job on. Blacking out a watch is the horological equivalent of getting 22 chrome spinners.
that’s brilliant! spinners on an all black watch…iamneil you are the genius of this generation
http://www.alange-soehne.com/cms/en/timepieces/lange-1/index.html WHOA Buddy. That is a great time piece! I rock an old Omega SeaMaster Deville (old means 1970s), but I love it. Most new watches are too “5TIMEZONE/BAROMETER/STUPIDSTUFF” for my taste. But, that might be a nice present to myself if I ever get a real job and pass all the CFA sections.
I have an Omega Seamaster Chrono and love the thing. I get a lot of compliments on it. For a more “sporty” watch I really want to get a Tag Grand Carrera with leather. More classic I was thinking of a Longines Master Retrograde. If you’re looking for something a bit different, check out Ball watches.

I can’t stand your Keynsian point of view, but I admire your taste in watches. The grand carrera and just about any Ball are badaz.
