The grand carrera > and just about any Ball are badaz. LOL. My eyes are certainly bigger than my wallet (or at least the portion of it that my wife will let me spend). It’s amusing, I go through these stages where I want to upgrade certain parts of my wardrobe. Suits, pants, shirts. Then shoes. Followed by watches. I only like certain watches from each company. I don’t like many Tags, but the GC is awesome. Black face with a brown strap = Boss. There’s a couple Balls that I like but many are too “out there”. Gotta accumulate slowly.

I can completely relate to lxwarr. Once you start buying watches, you must buy more. Must buy more…

I don’t like that jagged edge that pops out and protects the pin?? i dunno watch terms, but ya.

I think if it’s obvious you haven’t banked your first mil yet, you look pretty foolish wearing an expensive watch.

I couldn’t justify spending more than $500 on a watch, as I’d really regret it if I lost it. Plus I almost always check my phone for the time (stupid, I know), so the watch does nothing more than look good and provide the little extra weight on my wrist that I’m used to. I got the all silver Tissot in the link below. It’s simple, which is why I like it. http://www.tissot.ch/?mod_collections/action_getsubfamilies/colid_0005/famid_0040/refid_VDAzMV80MTBfMTFfMDUzXzAw

For me a watch should have a “soul”, so it needs to be mechanical to be interesting (quartz is too precise and is pure functionality). Besides mechanical I always look at the movement, and for me a watch is only interesting if the movement is completely inhouse made. I dislike the watch brands that just buy the movements from another manufacturer, put it in a case they bought somewhere else and charge you 500-1000 USD for combining it for you. And the history of the watch manufacturer is important. I dont want a brand that is just in the market for a couple of years and pretends to have an interesting history. Brands of interest so far: Rolex Patek AP VC JLC Seiko (higher range) Good thing about a high-end mechanical watch is that prices are increasing each year, so if you buy a Rolex or PP now you might be able to get the same price (or a bit more) for it when you resell it in a couple of years.

I’ve looked at the Rolex Submariner anniversary edition for this very reason. The annual (or nearly annual) MSRP increase keep the used prices very high. If you want to resell it, you can get almost what you paid for it, so it isn’t costing you all that much (except for the opportunity cost of not investing the money or whatever, this is a finance forum after all).

I think I want an Omega PO but don’t want to pay full freight. Anyone selling?

Anybody have an opinion on Ebel as a brand or on this watch in particular? I just like its clean, simple look:

^ I like Ebel as a brand since both of my grandparents have nice ones that I’ll likely inherit.

That one you posted is nice and clean, just not really my style. I find myself partial to sport watches.

I have two awesome watches. They both tell me the time and date.

This is my dress watch:

And here is my casual watch:

http://www.amazon.com/Timex-T53151-Ironman-Traditional-30-Lap/dp/B000B4ZXV6/ref=sr_1_1?s=watches&ie=UTF8&qid=1360986007&sr=1-1&keywords=ironman+triathlon

…but they tell the world you’re a back office monkey. Even if you’re not, that’s what people who don’t know you will think when they notice your watch. The luxury watch industry is built on this fact.

what kind of watch straps are least affected by sweat?

probably rubber.

Eh. I also have that Timex Iron Man watch, but different color. I use it when I play outside, or sometimes when taking an airplane, as it doesn’t set off the metal detector. I am actually about to go running and I am wearing it right now…

I like that one.
