But I don’t totally agree with the analogy. I’ve never met a trader or PM who blamed his operations guy when his positions go the wrong way. It doesn’t even sound realistic. who’s going to buy that excuse?? And riding a hot air balloon doesn’t really give the situation justice. Because you can argue while the FO is taking the risk (eg riding the balloon), meeting a friend doesn’t mean that much. Perhaps the analogy should be adjusted to this: Guy rides hot air balloon to get to the top of the mountain, which has gold in it. The ops guy has to walk it, can take many years to get there and may not make it at all. The FO guy can make it much faster and quicker with the balloon, but runs the risk of getting lost in the clouds.
