Since there are so many threads of people freaking out and cramming last minute - perhaps we can have one about people who have started early, put in the required study time diligently, and are confident they will pass. I’m not 100% confident I will pass, but I feel calm and OK.
we don’t need this thread.
if i had to take the exam tomorrow i’m pretty sure i would fail (p=0.05)

I’d say 50:50 chance I’ll pass if I had to take the test now…
i am rooting heavily for SkipE99, for example, since he’s been diligent and has put in the time (just like i’ve put things in his mom) i am rooting heavily for cpk123, since he’s the man others i’m really rooting for: - swaptiongamma - bannisja - philip.platt - cfaboston28 - TheAliMan and a few others who have been working their butts off for months (like me) while the last minute crammers are freaking out stupidly
sublimity Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > i am rooting heavily for SkipE99, for example, > since he’s been diligent and has put in the time > (just like i’ve put things in his mom) WOOF - I guess I’d be a fan too if i had such a relationship with his mom.
woof? Sub, you are relentless. If you are half as good at studying than you are at making terrible mom jokes, your chances of passing are high.
Started in April, so not all last minute crammers are “freaking out stupidly”. I work fulltime as well. Some people don’t need 6+ months of studying for this believe it or not. The material is not hard if you work in the industry.
sounds like you are pretty confident in your test taking ability. in fact, it sounds like you are going to be able to handle this beast without breaking a sweat. congratulations!!! you start reviewing the Level 3 books already too?
Don’t hate. Some people are naturally better test takers and are able to process information better than the normal individual. Just because you struggle does not mean everyone else does.
@ nyccfa2010 well, congrats. the material isn’t too bad if you work in the industry or you have an academic finance background - but can be tough in general or epic in volume if not @ SkipE99 who said that was a “joke”?
At least you get it sublimity, some people get offended when you say the material isn’t bad. Which it isn’t, if you have a bachelors and mba in finance, as well as 7+yrs in the industry.
i have no background in finance, i’ve probably put in ~300 hours so far, i’m scoring pretty well but i still don’t think i’d be able to pass if i had to take the exam tomorrow. it isn’t really black & white like “put in 1000 hours” vs “start studying halfway through may”

nyccfa2010, if you have got that much, then one has to wonder how much value add are you getting by doing cfa.
@ cfaboston28 thanks! (my fellow CAIA test taker) @ nyccfa2010 it seems that the main issue is the interaction between: - time, - academic background - experience - work ethic and not necessarily intelligence, though this stuff isn’t “easy” @ supersharpshooter true, agreed
CAIA L2 is on hold for now. Will take only if my employer pays else fck it.
Most of the guys I work with have it, and I just decided to just take it for the hell of it. Started serious stuyding in Nov 08, for the Level 1 Dec 08 exam. Then started in April for Level II. So all in all its only 3 months of studying on the weekends, isnt a big deal. That being said, if I fail at anytime, I won’t sign up again.
