You get $15. Make the best combo of attributes for a job as possible

Are you serious? Being good looking opens up all sorts of opportunties.

^ like?

Let’s not pretend that people are not biased by physical appearance. This comes into play whether getting a date or a job. Attractive people are better received in general.

claritas - $14. keep the change

LOL igor! You win the thread.

You’re kidding, right?

Good looks and a silver tongue, you can pretty much do whatever you want

im not so sure. Think y’all may be overrating it somewhat. It’s much easier to get girls than get good jobs. (From personal experience)

maybe for prospective female employees, but even then. Employers don’t even see you until stage 3 of the process. After sifting through resumes & then a phone interview. Have to get past both to even have a chance

That is why you use your skills to your advantage. If I had mediocre qualifications but incredible looks, confidence, charisma and gifted speech (and of course relevant knowledge for the job), I would bypass the normal process and do everything possible to get myself in front of decision makers. Smooth talk the receptionist, security or their PA into giving me 10 minutes of their time.

You’re underestimating the power of being able to win people over and getting them to fight your corner.

$4 - Top 5 undergraduate finance degree

$2- division 1 college athlete

$3- be the best looking guy in any room

$5- 95th percentile public speaker/ BSer

$1- ability to speak 1 foreign language

Haha, yeah, actually unlimited free access to top resume writer in the world SHOULD have been on my list – for $2, this is a steal – but, I had to pick at least one item from every bucket.

Also, you correctly noticed that I didn’t list much technical or academic stuff. In thinking back on why I responded the way I did, I am a pretty aspirational guy so as such, wanted to envision my life in a very different way (though practically speaking, I would never downplay the value of a great education).

For example, I already have a top 5 MBA, a pretty good resume, and some of the other educational stuff, and wouldn’t actually want an undergraduate finance degree since I think a well-rounded liberal arts education is the way to go. However, to have a reference from Buffett, be the best looking person in EVERY room, and to speak four languages (I only speak two fluently)? That would be super cool. I’d consider trading in my degrees for more such “practical” assets.

Having said all of that, thanks for the plug about my resume review services  For “$2” I don’t know why not everyone has picked this! What a great deal, and clearly hypothetical

When it comes to getting a date then yes. But if I was hiring a guy I don’t care if he looks like brad pit or someone ordinary. Maybe I’d rather pick the ordinary looking dude so he’s not preoccupied boning every chick in the office like myself.

Or… good looking dude hooks you up with all the models and HCBs he hangs out with on the weekends.

$5- Top 5 MBA

$1- mediocre state university accounting degree

$3- personal tailor to fit your suits & unlimited clothing budget w/ personal stylist

$3- 2 foreign languages

$2- division 1 college athlete

I really wanted $5 95th percentile speaker but had to settle for $3 languages.

Obviously this is an exercise that reflects what we feel we are lacking and puts less emphasis on what we have already.

It’d be interesting to see what others have using the same template, and what they would like to be if they could do it all over again.

I’m worth $8 from the list. LOL

i think you’re confusing charm & quality conversation skills with straight up good looks. Perhaps the good looks are a good thing coupled with the conversation ability, but a 10/10 face alone with subpar social skills or subpar experience or education isn’t going to magically get anyone a job

the 3-4% difference is likely heaviliy influenced by actors and TV people, politicians, and sales people. I don’t think it matters nearly as much in finance, accounting, economics. If all things are equal, then yes, the better looking person will be selected, but I don’t believe it’s enough to compensate for a slight advantage in any other practical area
