You get $15. Make the best combo of attributes for a job as possible

i agree 100%. I bet everything people select is what they do not have, & what they choose to ignore, they already have

Just realized- not one person has chosen CFA charterholder

^ Not surprised.

I am surprised by how much the cfa charter gets bashed on this website. I think the material is great. Not sure what people want.

i find it surprising considering this site is dedicated to it. Seems pretty telling.

you see a lot of resumes & deal with a lot of people job hunting. You would probably be the most qualified person on this site to speak about it- What can you say about the true real world effects of having the charter on your resume in the job hunt process? Are the results tangible and clearly evident? Is it really only worth it in certain areas of finance & utterly worthless otherwise? Is the charter simply a case of “breaking the tie between two candidates” or does it clearly set someone apart and make them the clear front runner ahead of someone that doesn’t have it?

^ not sure how it helps in the job hunting process but I do find it very useful at work. But Im one of those who didn’t study at college and its sounding like every already knows the l1 material from undergrad.

vandelay, im at the bottom of the foodchain brah. A lowly junior analyst. U must have me confused with RR or someone.

haha whoops you’re right! I had you confused. Sorry about that!

There are unfortunately far more CFAs out there than the job market is demanding. If you’re hoping that the charter will open a lot of doors, you will be disappointed. Top-5 MBA ftw.

Required:

$1- ability to speak 1 foreign language $3- be the best looking guy in any room $1- CAIA (other stuff is better, but not worth the cost) $5- 95th percentile public speaker/ BSer $2- division 1 college athlete

Extra:

$3- 2 foreign languages

The thing about all the degrees and certifications is that you can always get them later. With the fundamental stuff (being athletic, good looking, well spoken, etc.), it will carry with you everywhere. Even if you suck with numbers and can’t pick stocks worth shit, a person like you will always be necessary as a glue guy that works with clients/investors or manages across departments. You can even transfer ALL of those skills to outside the industry whenever you want.

When you think about it, you build your best 15$ person and the CFA charter can be earned with those attributes in the future. You can’t go back in time and change your education or age-constrained accomplishments.

great point. Very true. But let’s assume the interview was tomorrow & you didn’t have time to go out and earn other attributes & certifications. You just have to walk into the interview with what you choose from the list

Here we go: $4 Top 5 undergraduate finance degree $3 be the best looking guy in any room $2 CMA $4 ability to remember anyone’s name instantly $2 division 1 college athlete — $15 Top 5 MBA > Top 5 undergraduate finance degree, but then I’d have to take CAIA over CMA, and CAIA is pretty worthless. I’d like to short these ones as overpriced: $3 passed CFA level 2 $2 unlimited free access to top resume writer in world $5 CFA Charterholder $3 personal tailor to fit your suits & unlimited clothing budget w/ personal stylist $3 2 foreign languages $2 Passed CFA level 1

haha I like your shorting idea. I can agree with all yours except I don’t think the unlimited free access to top resume writer for $2 is too bad

$5- Top 5 MBA

$5- CFA Charterholder

$5-computer programming expert

You need to choose one from each category…

$1- ability to speak 1 foreign language

$1- mediocre state university accounting degree

$5-computer programming expert

$5- 95th percentile public speaker/ BSer

$3- perfect score GMAT

computer programming expert who is a 95th percentile speaker. unheard of. and a perfect score GMAT shows you he has potential. as long as he’s willing to actually get his MBA.

haha you’re right about the programming expert and 95th percentile speaker. IMO is almost as if they’d cancel each other out & not be worth combining. If you’re a top tier programmer you often wouldn’t be able to put your speaking talents to use because you’ll be called on to program and vice versa
