Anyone able to apply for the 2018 scholarship? I am able to, is that telling?

i have no idea to be honest. candidate # is the primary key tho for the database. and the retaker angle makes more sense this way. all else being equal, a retaker should have a lower candidate # than a first timer. this is so sad

wow this is very true. i can almost hear those gears turning in you head right now haha. I agree. I have very low candidate number too. I took L1 in 2012 and failed.

Sheesh…if they are loading by candidate number it would make a lot of sense. Explains the differences. Also explains why the retakers are all box 1.

It looks like I fell for some fake news! Box 2ers are back in the game!

So…keep checking for the next couple of days?

Yeah - my guess is that over the next week everyone will be box 1

.

I don’t work with databases directly since we’re not IT but I do know that DB’s are run off queries that need to be set manually usually on a daily basis like updating trade prices etc etc. so it’s usually done in batches where the job runs over night. And then gets updating in the morning but obv cfai might be a little different. I would imagine running all the candidates info at once exposes them to overloading and DB crashing, or at least ours do.

As mentioned earlier, I have never applied for scholarship. Since beginning of this week the scholarship button disappeared in my account

This was my first try for Level III

Did you try starting your scholarship application and withdraw? Because I also saw one box this week (when I never applied for any scholarship) but when I started the application and withdrew, I see 2 boxes.

No, didn’t. The scholarship link isn’t available anymore in my account

.

It did not show up in my account too. However, someone posted these steps on AF and when I tried it, it did show up.

1 – Log in

2 – Go to https://www.cfainstitute.org/programs/cfaprogram/scholarships/Pages/index.aspx

3 – Scroll down and click on “Begin or manage your application”

4 – Click on “Apply for 2018 Access Scholarship”

You can probably check and confirm what’s coming up when you follow the above steps.

If it says you are not eligible for scholarship or there is no option of Apply for 2018 scholarship, after you scroll down to "Begin and manage your application ", then that would probably mean something (Coz ideally you should be seeing that option on the above link when you login to your account).

OK,that works and I can apply there for a scholarship.

I am on the same boat with @Flashback and @Onward. I applied for the scholarship earlier for several times and withdrew all of them but still saw two boxes. I’m not too worried, however. I would say it’s a glitch rather than a telling sign for the following reasons:

  1. There are still two weeks to go before L3 results are finally released, and CFAI probably haven’t uploaded them yet. Otherwise the two week delay in L3 would be meaningless. CFAI website also indicates that there’s a cross-check in week 8-10 for L3 scores before they are eventually computerized (https://www.cfainstitute.org/programs/cfaprogram/exams/Documents/exam_results_timeline_june.pdf).
  2. There does seem to be a one-box-or-two telling sign regarding last year’s L3 results, but 1) that was figured out only 1 day before the release date (Aug 8th) and 2) the “box” they were referring to is different from what we are talking about here (See the post from last year: https://www.analystforum.com/forums/cfa-forums/cfa-level-iii-forum/91353285): it’s that whether you have another box saying “Not Eligible to Apply” in your “Manage your scholarship application” panel, not that whether or not you have another box under “Your Program”. So I would at least wait till then if the box is really implying something.
  3. Most importantly, I studied my a** off for the exam as Flashback and Onward did. I used CFAI textbooks and have been studying since last September. I did tons of previous AM papers, multiple times. I felt pretty confident walking out of the testing center with no question left blank in AM part. Simply put: I just DON’T believe that I did worse than more than half of the candidates UNLESS CFAI has decided to lower the passing rate from 54% to 20% this year.

So for those who have 2 boxes: don’t panic guys and be confident in yourself. Just keep calm and wait for the judgement day of August 8th.

For those who have 1 box: I really hope that all of us can pass but please be careful not to get trapped in confirmation bias LOL.

What needs to happen, let it happen. I’m ready. My Lord.

^ This!

youve been watching too many episodes of game of thrones

hahahaha p.s. too many episodes of Game of Thrones? Is that even possible… queue the intro tune… DUN DUN DUDUDUN

it’s all good confident 2 box people. was this your first time taking level 3? have you not been in the program for a long time? don’t worry, your box will dissappear soon

First time taker here, physics PhD, no financial background, sat for the three levels in 15/16/17 consecutively. Basically I took the exam more seriously as the level went up.

Started in January for 2015 June L1, completely new to finance world. Used Schweser notes and CFAI mocks. Walked out with 60% confidence level to pass, and finally passed with 6A4B.

Started in January for 2016 June L2, was much more serious. Used Schweser notes, EOC, TT, CFAI mocks. I knew for sure I killed the exam right after the afternoon session. Passed with everything above 70 except Ethics falling in 50-70 range.

For L3 I studied even harder. Started last September and used CFAI textbooks instead of notes just to cover every angle. Did 10+ previous AM papers several times, and completely got through EOCs and TTs. I was not that confident that I nailed L3 when the exam was over compared to how I felt for L2, but I think I had definitely done enough to pass. Maybe the only X-factor could be Ethics, for which I probably have never caught what CFAI wants us to get, English is not my first language though.
