First time taking Level 3, took Level 1 in June of 2015. Going with the CFA ID number delay theory, my CFA ID would be on the higher end then. If it makes any difference, I originally accidentally applied for it a few weeks back and withdrew then. Also, I received the Access Scholarship when I took Level 1, so that could be another contributing variable. So, too many variables to account for. I agree it’s interesting that people get different results, but very possible we’re all reading the tea leaves incorrectly.
I got the access scholarship for L1 too when I took it through my school. But yeah im a long timer. L1 in June 2012. and L1 again in Dec 2012 with better sucess hahaha.
Yet again - another first time taker has 2 boxes…yet to find a 2nd taker that has two boxes.
In conclusion you failed if this is your first time taking the exam, and have passed if this is the second time taking.
I am a first time LIII taker. I sat LI in Dec 2012 and LII last year (a few years off in between!) so my candidate number will be quite “low”.
I have never applied for a scholarship, until last night when I applied and withdrew, twice.
I can see two boxes and it still shows my application as registered for a scholarship (until I click in and it shows it withdrawn).
Im pretty sure we have some first timers here that has a 1 box if you go back far enough. I remember reading it.
Nope - ive gone back to check - there are no first time takers who have applied and withdrawn who have one box. Same holds for repeat takers - their our none who have 2 boxes.
Until this is proven false - we just have some fake news!
haha so all this uncovered was a tell of who has taken L3 more than once and who has taken it once
.
Sorry to bust you theory Clarity, but I am a first time taker and have one box after applying and withdrawing.
I am beginning to think that if this is a tell then two box = pass.
right here Clarity
Welp - don’t have clue.
One box rules them all!!!
.
Can you give us a little background on your study routine and how how many hours and just a rough idea of how confident you feel? Thanks.
I went and applied and withdrew my application, two boxes. I wrote it previously but I am a 2 boxer, retaker, begining in 2012 and am fairly confident of a pass (at least before this thread started).
i’m starting to think 2 box = pass and 1 box = fail
everyone who is confident has 2 boxes. everyone who is unsure has 1 box. feel like i just got washed up on a jetty
I am going to assume the CFAI fixed last year’s tell (no one will know until we are a day or two out). Assuming they did they aren’t going to replace one tell with another. This isn’t some kind of Easter Egg hunt where they always leave something for someone to find.
.
I studied a lot. read material once, EOC x 2, TT x 2.5, 6AM exams X 2, 4 PM exams. was scoring around 65% on mocks.
I felt I did well in AM but got destroyed in PM. I agree that people with 2 boxes are more confident than those with 1. Therefore 2 is more likely to mean pass.
I was beginning to think this isn’t a tell, but I can’t think of any other reason why people are getting different results after withdrawing their scholarship application.

I’m a retaker but refuse to check what box I’m getting… would rather remain in purgatory
you should check just cause we don’t know what 1 or 2 mean yet
L3 Retaker
Somewhat confident.
Initially had 2 boxes, submitted and withdrew app, down to one. (this took like 3 tries though)
I can follow the links and get it back to 2 boxes though so I don’t really know how much this matters.
I suspect everyone that has 2 boxes could get 1 if they just played with the system long enough.
Also suspect it’s too early to tell.
