Apply for membership today?

Gah, my references are taking forever. I will have to remind them to click the link and fill out the questionnaire. Gah!

Got my work experiences approved by the CFAI within 7 business days. It is now left for society review, which I understand will take another 30 calendar days. Fingers crossed.

Same here. Glad I didn’t wait until results & am getting this over with before the rush.

Which society? I don’t know why it should take so long for a society. What are they checking that is different from what the Institute checks? I know it says it can take up to 30 days for the society, but I hope that’s not the case…

I’m guessing larger societies will take longer. I know my society probably only has 3-5 people applying for membership, if it’s like previous years.

I just got some pre-approval notice from my local society. Basically now all I have to do is pay

So people who get result in august get the charter in how many months ?

Brilliant. Happy to know!

New York…it may not take as long as 30 calendar days. I guess it a worst case scenario. The 30 days is generic…may obviously take far less in some societies. Again, considering that most society executives are full time workers…could that have an impact on their response time? Between, what will the societies be looking to vet?

With society regular membership in place and a level 3 pass, whoever is a charter holder.

It should take roughly 40 days to get regular membership after submitting the application, assuming that the CFAI is not overworked and that you have selected a reasonable society.

I’m not a member and did not get the email. Damn. I should have never logged on to AF.

Not to worry slave…

In a leap of pure Faith, I applied and started the process too. 50/50 is not bad odds, better than 38% L1 or 43% L2.

I think once you get your references done, which takes a while to get people to fill it out I guess, you can then decide to cough up the $275 to pay off CFAi and whatever the local society wants to be a little a head of the rush. Then start ordering new business cards too, but not use them until you officially get the Charter;)

I think you got to have a lot of confidence to start applying before the result comes out. Talk about double dissapointing! If I pass it would be bc of going to the darn 4-day Bootcamp with Marc, also took level 2 w/ him too… I read before some people said that made the passing difference to them, so am hopping for the same magic! I wonder if appying early will jinx you?

It’s been 7 business days and my application is still pending with “Work Experience Review.” I have plenty of experience, all of which is very clearly qualified (13 years of sell-side and buy-side research analyst) for the charter. I’m sure the approval will come soon, but this got me thinking… Anyone have any idea exactly how they vet our experience? Background check of some sort?

I got CFAI approval on the 8th business day, so I think you are in good shape. Mine is now changed to “under society review”. I am not sure about background check. Your references would have confirmed your experiences, provided that they are comfortable with the references.

I got CFAI approval in 5 days, but I have a feeling the society I am applying to will take longer (it’s already been 10 days). I bet it’s just one dude, who is probably on vacation.

I wish I had done this in early June. It will be embarassing to my references if I fail, but that’s about it.

Plus, it gives me something to obsess about until exam results come out - I am checking the CFA page like 4-5 times a day. haha.

Same here. And I think they email you, so you really don’t have to keep checking… but yeah, I am doing it, too.

hahaha…same here guys. It shows how “jobless” we have ended. No thanks to the CFAI. I suspect the guys keen to gain membership must be somewhat optimistic about the test. As earlier noted, if I do fail, the membership application will even make the failure more embarrassing.

Maybe it’s my age (mid 30s) or the fact that I have young kids who have thrown massive tantrums in public places, but embarassment doesn’t bother me much. I just don’t want to spend another 5 months of studying!
