China and India: You pick the dragon or the tiger?

That’s a latte a-wipe, now who’s the nerd? I would argue that trying to debate who has the best porn stars and wrestlers is about as pathetic as you can get. yea WillyR listen to Artie - AF is a serious forum for people with pineapples stuck up their asses. So it’d be best if you followed the rest of the crowd and shove one up yours as well.

ZB, I was kidding I just plain don’t like WillyR ZeroBonus Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > yea WillyR listen to Artie - AF is a serious forum > for people with pineapples stuck up their asses. > So it’d be best if you followed the rest of the > crowd and shove one up yours as well.

Okay… this thread has degenerated quite rapidly (and I was off this forum only for couple of hours today  Anyway, since we seem to have run out of India/China growth & development things to discuss and have moved on to better and meatier things (pun intended) like porn stars and wrestlers, I will take back my earlier call and now: “Let STOP the debate”

back to the topic: 1. Indian politicians will do anything to get re-elected or win the elections, even if that means they have to do a good deed once in a while and improve the state’s infrastructure. You can’t have an developed infrastructure without a large enough group of people ready to utilize it. Now that people have finally began to buy cars, it is just a matter of few years before the state start improving their roads. What should come first for high growth? A rising middle class or a well developed infrastructure. I say a rising middle class. Infrastructure development is inevitable in a society that has the resources to build it (namely money). India is finally making the money it needs to develop its infrastructure.

My econ prof just mentioned to us that China’s reported growth rate is a bunch of BS. Considering the vast majority of growth is on the coast, those cities need to be growing at about a 20% clip per year to support a national growth rate in double digits. You’ve got a bunch of provincial governors in the communist party who are told to have a 10% growth rate or they’re finished, with very little actual checking up on it. Surprise! 10% growth everytime.

There are many who believe that China’s numbers should be taken with a grain of salt.

Or maybe not. http://www.economist.com/finance/displaystory.cfm?story_id=10209215 http://www.project-syndicate.org/commentary/prasad2 The World Bank recently announced that the Chinese and Indian economies are 40% smaller than previously estimated. Since these are the fastest-growing large economies, the Bank’s revision has clipped half a percentage point off world growth over the last five years, according to the IMF. There remain gaping holes in the data. For example, the data for China are based on surveys in just 11 cities. Prices for rural areas – where two-thirds of China’s population still resides – are based on extrapolations from these data.

But then there is regionalism as well, if you are from north (bihar or UP) you might be discriminated. I hope you have read about the recent incidents in Maharashtra. >What does marriage have to do anything with economic growth? The dowry system is >now limited only to the rural remote areas. If you have time please go through the local dailies and you will see its all full of such stories and other atrocities against humankind. Totally agree with Rohufish. He has mentioned the facts. As I had mentioned in the last post, there has to be fundamental change in the mentality of the people here, that might happen EVENTUALLY, but I can’t see the end to the tunnel in near future.

China is an emerging super power that will surpass US in the next 30 years. The government is corrupted, then again which government is not? At least Chinese government gets things done. Olympics 2008 (best Olympic ever unarguably) is the first indication that the nation has recovered from the shame we suffered in early 20 century and will return to its formal glory. Maybe we should do a China Vs USA comparison. That is more appropriate. Oh ya, forget about who can speak English better, maybe you guys should start learn Chinese soon.

It is truly sad how pathetic some of your retorts have become. Sad. Willy

I think China is still a very risky market. 80% of the people are still basically subsistence farmers. All it takes is a big shock like famine (which isn’t impossible) and you might just see a resurgence of the cultural revolution.

For the benefit of those posters who tried an unsuccessful hijacking of this topic to Indian/Chinese girls/porn-stars, you’ll forget about Priya Rai after you take a look at Sunny Leone (yes, she is Indian!!). Check her out at your favorite web-site, I’m sure she’s available for your viewing pleasure…

So I’d have to disagree that its largely a thing of the past.

so there are no dragons in india?
