Sounds good. WIll be settling in for City of God tonight.
It is also really interesting how cinema throughout the world is evolving. A few years ago Indian Cinema provided the escapism for people who’se life had enough of grime and prefered to enjoy the feel good factors of true love and good triumphing over evil. It is why it was massively popular in the third world with people relating to the movies. I remember an Indonesian cab driver singing ‘yeh dil dosti’ and the Egyptian immigration officer asking if we had met Amitabh.
Now the reigonal movie industries like Telugu, Taml, Bengali etc have moved on to produce previously unexplored concepts. Bollywood and Hindi are following with movies like Iqbal, Kai Po Che and Black Friday all aimed at a previously ignored socio-economic class. Cynicsm and irony seem to be the hallmarks of wealth.
Nigeria and it’s local film industry seem to have stepped into that gap leap-frogging the USA in total number of movies produced and seem to have captured a huge market share pan - Africa. It would be interesting to see what concepts they deal with but a review I read a while back pinned down the Nigerian film industries rise to it’s ‘family oriented structure’ which is more or less as expected.
Does anyone have any opinion on the German movie Run Lola, Run?
I am kinda curious about the black stormtrooper. I thought all stormtroopers were white with dark hair.
Speaking of…has anyone here (specifically Sweep) seen “The Star Wars Holiday Special”? If you haven’t, you really need to watch it. It is, by far, the absolute worst thing I have ever seen on a television screen.
The black stormtrooper is obviously the first person that’s going to die. Beyond that, I suppose we can infer stormtroopers are no longer made up of clones, but more like a regular army of citizens.
I have seen the holiday special…or at least enough of it. That, along with the E.T. video game for Atari, are rated the worst things every created by the entertainment industry.
Have you seen the Star Wars trailer as if it was directed by George Lucas? Classic…
