Thanks calvol - it is what it is, figure somebody has to be that close. The good thing about this mature curriculum and the abundance of practice material is that you know where you’re at going into the exam, and I could’ve and should’ve avoided this by studying my weak points and having ethics down pat.
Passed! First attempt after passing Level I in December 2015. Didn’t think the 4 months was enough, but put in close to 400 hours with 7 mocks taken. My matrix is as follows:
Alts, Derivatives, Equity, Ethics, & Fixed >70%
CorpFin, Econ, & FRA 51-70%
PM & Quant <50%
My estimated 40/60/80 score was 70% with a band of 61% - 83%. Pretty much in line with all of my mock results.
Agreed, ive never used the CFAI i text. Did schweser live classes n used their qbank n texts for level 1, got over 70 in everything but ethics, passed this year with 6 topics over 70 with just schweser texts, q bank, cfai mock n chapter quizzes and videos on youtube
Agree with both of these. I am a Kaplan homer. I use their books for 99.999%. I only used the CFAI text for the theory of active management chapter for lvl II. I also did about 75% of the questions on the test bank and took 8 mocks (7 from Kaplan). Used this formula for both lvl 1 and 2 and have gotten 70+% on all topics on both exams. They do a good job and know what they are doing - just buy into their process and you will see.
Speaking of Schweser, have you looked at their Level III packages for 2017 yet? After a quick glance I’m leaning towards the straight Notes package and maybe filling in with ala carte offerings from other providers. $270 more for Essential with 3 more practice exams and pass insurance seems a bit steep (throwing out the Qbank as a differentiator as I don’t know how much value is there beyond Level I). I’ll probably be spending the next month working out a study plan and add on study resources. Wiley’s video lectures has me intrigued as well, assuming Daren Miller does them again. He’s been a grader for Level III AM papers and seems to offer great insights on how to tackle the constructed response session. Decisions decisions.
Hi there, Passed level 2 in first attempt. Didn’t have much time to study. put in 100 hours in a 1-month period. Bought the crash course from IFRT and did 5 mocks in the last 5 days. I guess I just made the cut because my score in FRA and Quant was below 50%, with everything else above 70%. Not recommending that people devote 1 month only to CFA level II, but is doable IF you have bad circumstances. Registered for level III today. Congrats to all, either you passed or not, for the work.
