Finally… finished my first mock exam (schw. book1 exam1). Got a 74% overall. I envy those that are getting 60’s in derivatives and portfolio management.
I would shift the 2013 mock to Saturday. Its tough, and worth going though early. I took it this weekend and it helped me visualize some of the questions that could come up, given what I know now. Its a great tool to use early so you can focus in during the last week knowing how they might formulate the questions. Either way, good luck and let us know how it goes.
Thanks… Thats a good point. But i’ve only done 1 mock, so its probably not a good idea to get into the 2013cfai mock until i’ve got a few bouts under my belt. Hopefully it happens before monday though.
Did you go through all of the other mocks prior to the 2013 cfa mock?
Yeah, I went through 4 Schwesers before. Honestly, it probably did help me improve on the 2013 score. But please do yourself a favor and take it as soon as possible. Its the best practice, and after like 2 mocks I think you might as well take it regardless of how you scored on them.
I am also very poor at standardized tests. Last year I tried to make the December - June gap between level I and level II and level II killed me. The schesser practice exams, in my opinion, tried to over compensate with word games while the CFAI mock exams slapped me with the truth. I remember taking the 2011 CFAI mock vs the 2012 and the 2011 is brutal. I am not talking about taking this test piece-meal or 1/2 at a time. Do it all the way through, with a one hour break, anxiety from the clock ticking. That’s the way to take the exam. These inflated scores on here seem to not line up. If you could hit in the “70’s” the pass rate wouldn’t be so low and more people would be able to get their charter. Answering questions on hour 5 after your brain has been scrambled like yoke Isnt the same as taking it fresh. This test is a combination of analytical, memorization, and a marathon. Iv studied all year, 2nd time studying the material and this test is hard. Not afraid to say it…just gotta pick yourself up and keep on trying
I agree with this wholeheartedly, though I’m not drawing on past L2 experience. Thanks for your post. I take all my tests timed with 30-60 minute break between AM and PM. I use the practice tests as much for practice answering questions as for developing an appropriate “cadence” (so to speak) for me to follow on test day. I think doing so is very valuable - I’ve not run out of time yet but the closest I’ve come is on the 2013 CFAI Mock PM portion.
I fell in band 9 last year after trying to do level 1 in dec and 2 in June. I remember sitting in the exam last year and saying to myself this is doable its not that hard. I thought I could breeze through it like I did level 1. I just needed another 2 weeks to hammer out key FRA concepts as I scored below 50% in that topic. I feel I would of passed if I focused my efforts towards the end on this topic. When it comes down to it you need to be confident enough to answer every FRA and Equity question. Don’t try to know every detail in every topic it doesn’t work.
