Up until recently there was massive sectarian violence in Ireland and ethno-religious based genocide in the balkans. Putin is popular as hell in Russia. 57 percent is his current rating and that is actually an all time low. Russians love him. Obama, by comparison, is at a much lower 52 percent which is the highest he has been since killing Bin Laden. Russians actually love Putin. It’s hard for us Westerners to get this, but they really actually do love and respect the guy by and large. Yes, there are some who don’t, but you’d be surprised that for the most part the guy is popular as Hell. I for one, would love to be more loved than Obama. Well done, Vova.

I think Russians used to love Putin very much, despite his methods, he did help put Russia back on the map and sacrificing some freedoms to ‘build a stronger Russia’ was good enough for many back in the day…But even mother Russia is changing and i think it won’t be long until Putin’s methods will stop working in emergent Russia
