My worry is that Chinese won’t stop at taking all of the manufacturing jobs. They will come after service industry. India did the same and now has $90+ bn trade with USA although India has many operational inefficiency, political issues, and protectionism policies which hinders it’s growth in trade but I don’t see these issues with China. In future with same level of english speaking abilities (figuratively) and education Chinese can outnumber Americans in service industry (IT, Finance) then it is possible, tomorrow we see service sector jobs moving to China. Despite of having a strong foothold in WTO, USA can’t seem to turn the current scenario of trade deficit, which is keep growing. Basically, if no one work on this problem then after few decades Americans won’t prefer to go college at least to find employment because it doesn’t make sense to work for $10 with $40k student debt. Can Bernie / Trump stop it? Will Canada be benefited if outsourcing decline after new president? I see some hope. And I agree with your points but I don’t see hope unless someone work to balance the trade.
In long run we will see frustration among young Americans because let’s be honest you didn’t go to college to work in fast food centers. Social unrest could arise when people won’t be able to pay for their debt and will be forced to do so. People, who have been laid off because their job went to India or China, feel the heat when it comes to find next job. All outsourcing thing has become a fucking joke. It is a transfer of American wealth to third world countries. I’ve worked in a big IT company which basically an outsourcing company who takes jobs from USA and create jobs in India. But by the time I left, I noticed a new trend where company has to send IT workers in USA because u.s. government had mposed new restrictions to hire American worker first or employ someone in USA. These company cry loud when H-1B visa fee rise because now they are forced to hire an American worker. From my past experience, I would prefer to work with an American than Indian. And I completely support the concept of hiring an American work at all cost.
NAFTA is not and was never a disaster. It has been highly successful for all three parties. Free trade is a win-win. This has been proven time after time after time. Free trading economies outperform closed economies.
seems like the world is preparing for a president Trump. Everyone’s falling in line. Is there any chance he loses? There’s just so much low hanging fruit to go after Clinton with. Her hypocracy with respect to women’s wages is just the beginning, and that is getting a ton of play in the news/social media from what I’ve seen. I think that is going to have a significant effect on the women’s vote. Trump will just keep going down the list of people/groups she’s screwed to further her own political ambitions. Easy road to the Whitehouse for Trump.
I’m certainly a Milton Friedman fan. I might even be for a dictatorship if he could run the show, but to suggest there is no downside to open trade with scocieties that have almost free labor in compared to their partners borders on zeolotry. Economics always has to be modeled short term and long term. The long term effects are often very different than the short term effects. Trade and immigration continue to devestate the underclass, i.e. wage stagnation, even though the economy as a whole is better off. We all took economics 101 and understand guns and butter. You can argue that the underclass should develop some marketable skills, and I believe in a couple of generations they will, but in a society that offers entitlements and believes in taking care of that underclass, trade and immigration should be measured to allow the underclass to transition to more productive pursuits. Some of our trading partners seem to want to make sure trade deficits never balance. Economic theory claims a defcit cannot continue forever, but I don’t see the scale starting to balance. Trump believes this is because some of our partners aren’t playing fair. What is your explanation? Buffet proposed many years ago that export credits would be a good idea. This would force trade to balance. You want to import, just make sure you posess an export credit of equal value.
I’m really not sure who pooped in your breakfast cereal, and why you ate it.
Trump acts stupid, because he believes Americans are stupid, this many Americans identifying with Trump, proves he is right, they are stupid! It already happened, and Americans can’t go back in time and say this did not happen. A line has been crossed, that place IS Idiocracy now, it’s official.
People all over the world have been asking me about this over the last year (assuming I can tell them the answer because of my citizenship) “PA WTF is going on there? Don’t they realize this makes them look like idiots to the rest of the world?”. This is not my logic, this is the world logic.
You should think things thru a little more before posting. Just a suggestion, but either way I don’t have time to explain every little obvious thing to you.
Where are those numbers coming from? FiveThirtyEight while biased has done a pretty good job in the past and they are calling all three of those as leaning Dem. Would be interested in seeing your sources. As a fan of handicapping events you should at least appreciate their methodology and the model providing odds for different events
It would be interesting to run the correlation on Trump states and murder rate by state (proxy for fear and emotionality). Polls say Trump leads in the big murder states (Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, Alabama, Florida, etc).
Thanks for the link, interesting to see the disparity in the 2 polls. Will be interesting the see how the race pans out, I have always found polling to be interesting even though no matter what way you slice it the poll only tell you so much.
